that time I was vegan

Sunday, August 9, 2015
I am converting (slowly) to a vegan 80 percent of the time.

Oh. My. God. It's a total mind shift of how you eat, how you consume protein and realizing how many of the things you currently eat actually fit within the vegan guidelines.

When Door to Door Organics reached for a partnership two months ago, it was like the vegan gods shining down on me and yelling, "Just do it!"

Every week when I received my bitty box, it was full of fresh fruit and vegetables that I could somehow use to manipulate a new recipe. Plus, I could add in quinoa, chia seeds and spices that I needed to make my new dishes.

One of my staples is a green drink of some kind. For two years since I've had my Vitamix, I can't drink enough green protein smoothies. I make some variation of one almost every day, although now I'm enjoying chia pudding with fresh blueberries. The beauty of the bitty box was there was always something new to add in - avocado, celery, cucumber, banana, strawberries and blueberries. I would literally get all Martha and mix in whatever I had to blend a healthy breakfast. Who needs caffeine? Not this girl.

This green juice called for a mix at what I had at the end of my bitty box - a few pieces of cantaloupe, 2 big handfuls of super spinach mix, 1/2 cup of blueberries, almond milk and a handful of ice.

Here are a few other variations that you can try to mix up your breakfast.

Simple Green Smoothie

Spinach Kiwi Chia Smoothie

Pumpkin Milkshake

One of the reasons I was able to use all my bitty box was really due to mixing up juices and smoothies each day. It was a simple way to recover after a long run or a hot yoga class with a pretty healthy snack. Need to eat more greens? Try blending them.

joy delivered for realz

Thursday, July 2, 2015
I buy almost everything online.

Shoes, clothes, toilet paper, cleaning products, shower curtains, candles, make up, purses and kitchen supplies.

So really the only category left to cross of my list would be food.

Door to Door Organics launched in Cleveland about two months ago where they deliver fresh organic fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and other products right to you door. (Seriously, it's the most convenient thing for someone like me even though there is a fabulous grocery store two blocks from my apartment.)

Each order is specifically packed in boxes with the appropriate freeze packs to preserve the freshness of the products. As someone who lives in an apartment, my package is delivered each week by my leasing office into my home and it's always a surprise what I ordered.

Arrives like magic in my apartment

Fresh fruit and vegetables for the week

How easy is ordering? Ridiculously easy.

Every Friday, I login and can sub items out of my bitty box if I don't want them and add any number of food items into my cart each week. Green lentils, coconut milk, organic chocolate chips, organic brown rice, spices and more are just a click of a button and been staples in my order since I'm trying out being vegan for a few weeks.

After a few days, I honestly forget what I ordered so it's a fun surprise each Tuesday when I open my box and rediscover what meals I'll be making for the week.

If you are overwhelmed by the shopping list, make it simple and plan your meals by their recipes instead. It makes shopping so much easier, just click and add them into your cart and viola! Meals planned for the week.

Door to Door Organics are a very customer service oriented business, too. They are new and mistakes happen but they do EVERYTHING their power to make it right, especially if they leave something off your order. (This has only happened twice but you better believe I noticed the organic chocolate chips were missing. #dessertaddict) You can call or email them to let them know and they will put it on your reorder list for you.

Two ways to enter:

1) Tweet: I want #joydelivered to my damn doorstep too, @allisonpeltz!
2) Share a recipe from their site you would make with your order. (Hint: I'm all about the green smoothies.)

Disclosure: I was provided a $500 giftcard for this brand partnership. All thoughts, opinions and my choice to go vegan for a weeks are my own. They just supply the fresh ingredients and I'm left to follow the recipes.
